2013-03-02 | Datr | I suppose it doesn't really make any real difference, it will all average out in the end.
2013-03-02 | Zuril | I went back to the old rating system because not being able to use the decimal variations are too rounded.
2013-03-01 | Datr | The all problems are different because they are also coded with m and t so m12345 is a different problem to t12345, clearly it wouldn't work if they were both just 12345.

Zuril now has 71,747 checkmate problems and the tactics numbers are greater than 100,000. Would it be a lot easier to put checkmate problems from 100,000 to 171,747 so that you have a "one number for all problems"? You have two numbers: one for checkmates and one for tactics. You could start tactics again at 200,000. The old numbered tactics are the same from 1 to 99,999. I do not think you will go for a million problems anytime soon. |

If Garykevinware promise to become active I will lower his RD to 50 gladly! |
|
2013-02-26 | Datr |
OK. It isn't a problem as such. What about Garykevinware? Could you set his RD to 50 so that he doesn't risk losing too many points when he becomes active? |
|
2013-02-26 | Zuril | Datr: it's not easy to change the rating system to use decimals because in the database RD and ELO are stored as integers
2013-02-26 | Datr | Zuril: My Glicko Spreadsheet appears to be consistent with the rating changes I am getting. It would add more certainty if you could show player ratings and rating changes correct to one decimal place, at least temporarily, so that I can confirm consistency with my values and the sites values. If all is well I would recommend this level of accuracy on a permanent basis.
2013-02-26 | Zuril | This week end I'll check the new rating system configuration in a spreadsheet
2013-02-26 | Datr | N4pII: I know CT has a histogram of problems ELO against number of attempts by a player in User Stats, but where is the histogram of ELO Ratings against Number of Problems stored?
2013-02-26 | Datr | Zuril: CT gives ELO correct to one decimal place and RD to two decimal places. Now that the rating changes are smaller I think more accurate figures would be appropriate.

1. I think the new rating system is DIFFERENT not necessarily BETTER. 2. Could you post in FAQ a histogram of problems with their ratings? For example, there are 85 problems are between 1600 and 1650 ELO. There are chesstempo and emrald websites that already have this. |
|
2013-02-26 | Datr | Zuril: It seems to be working OK. Penalties are around +4 instead of +10. Gains for Correct answers are also reduced but I think it is better.
2013-02-25 | Zuril | Datr: now the check is removed. Let me know if the rating system works better!
2013-02-25 | Zuril | Datr: yes I confirm that if K is less than 16, I set k to 16
2013-02-25 | Zuril | Datr: yes I confirm that if k
2013-02-25 | Datr | Zuril: You may have read the recent comments about the sites rating system. I recall we discussed the value of K at some point and found on Freechess.org. "NOTE: if K is less than 16, we use 16 instead.". I am not sure why the set K min to 16 but I think this is what is causing the high penalties for getting a new problem wrong. Did you set K min to 16? If so, I think it might be worth removing this condition. The penalties for getting problems wrong on CT aren't as severe as this site so I suspect they aren't using this condition.
2013-02-18 | Datr | Zuril: Following recent comments and the fact that 1 Star problems are no longer deleted, I think the passage "It’s important that after attempting the puzzle you express your quality rating by assigning a vote from 1 to 5 stars. The puzzles with very low votes will be removed after some time!" Should be changed to: "After attempting the problem you may express your quality rating by assigning a vote from 1 to 5 stars. The top 150 problems are listed in the Ranking Problems Menu.
2013-02-18 | Datr | Zuril: The word puzzle should be change to problem in the ELO Problem Window.
2013-02-13 | Ric | Datr, Thank you for your clear explanation.
2013-02-13 | Datr | RD stands for Rating Deviation. It is like a Standard Deviation in statistics. Players start with an RD of 350 and it drops after every problem attempted. It has a minimum value of 30 and only increases if a player is inactive. It is better to have a high RD to start with because this cause large changes in your rating after each attempt, so a players rating will soon be at a rating close to their true ability. Having gotten close to your true rating level it is good to have a low RD, minimum 30, so that your rating only changes by small amounts after each attempt. So your RD =30 is a good for you.
2013-02-12 | Ric | What does RD mean? Is it better to have it high or low (my RD is presently 30). Thank you for this explanation

With an addendum: 1. 1st problem is tactics and 2nd problem is checkmate 4. Register and forum are the same. |

To Zuril: 1. Datr says the solutions need to be added for 30309 and 51020 2. I have played one time a mate in 7 and one time a mate in 8. Your numbers are from one to six. 3. Thank you for your explanation about chess club advertisement. 4. Is the forum username and password is the same as registering into Ideachess? (I believe the answer is yes; I will try again differently.) Thank you |

2013-02-10 | Zuril | modified. I don't add "achieved on" to not increase too much the words to be translated :-)
2013-02-10 | Datr |
Zuril: Good idea but I think it needs the word best. Record ELO: 1720 (2013-02-10) Change to something like: Best ELO Rating: 1720 achieved on 2013-02-10 |
|
2013-02-10 | Zuril | New feature: in the menu user -> stats now is recorded the best ELO achieved. To be registered your actual ELO as best ELO your RD had to be lower or equal to 50.
2013-02-10 | Zuril | N4pll: I do not think is a good idea to advertise your club on ideachess. I suggest you to use services like adwords by google and select the geographical area of your club as target. All advertising on my site is managed by google for simplicity.
